Description |
Accurate replica of a classic Mesa Verde, Ancestral Pueblo III style bowl based on an archaeological example from the Salmon Ruins Collection. The pueblo III period is ca. 1200-1280 CE. Black paint on light gray body. Centrally located band of connected "bulls eye" designs located between solid and checkerboard outer bands. Signed "Wood 272." Includes a handmade ring pot-rest constructed from wrapped juniper bark. Bowl is constructed from carbonaceous clay of the Dakota sandstone formation collected by hand from Cortez, Colorado. Slip is made from montmorillonite clay of the morrison formation. Temper formed from 12% crushed potsherd and 4% andesite. Paint derived from the rocky mountain bee plant Cleome serrulata. Includes woven ring mount. |
